About this place
Certaldo Alto stands on a hilltop in the Valdelsa and preserves a compact historic centre built largely of brick. Via Boccaccio is its main street: along it, houses, churches and palaces tell the story of the village, closely linked to the life of the author of the Decameron.
A walk can begin at the old Alberti, al Sole and al Rivellino gates, continuing through narrow streets and viewpoints over the countryside. The lower town can be reached by the roads up the hill or by funicular, subject to service availability.
