About this place
The Medieval Castle of Itri stands in the upper part of the village, on the hill of Sant’Angelo. The towers and fortified passageways bear witness to a structure built primarily to control the surrounding territory and the route of the Via Appia, rather than to serve as a residence.
The climb up to the castle winds through the streets of the historic centre, allowing visitors to appreciate the connection between the fortress and the town. The opening times of the internal route should be checked with the site manager; the views over the surrounding countryside round off the exploration of the defensive architecture.
